Stud History
A brief history, we started the stud back in 2005. Owner/manager, Malcolm King grew up on his parents Angus Stud in North West New South Wales near the town of Tamworth & then Wingham. After Ag college and also going on to graduate from University. He eventually worked for the Animal Business Research Institute (ABRI) in Armidale, NSW. During his time there, he worked on Breedplan analysis for several beef breeds before becoming General Manager of the Gelbvieh Association of Australia. This was where Malcolm developed an extensive knowledge and a real interest in Gelbvieh cattle.
The first Gelbvieh female cows that started our herd were purchased from the dispersal of Lesley Marchant's Magnus Gelbvieh stud from Wellington near Dubbo, NSW. These females were in calf to a Freedom (well known American AI sire) son and hence the stud was started. As time went on the females were mated to leading International AI sires and the offspring of these matings formed the beginings of the stud.
Over the years many more cattle have been bred and several purchased from dispersal sales to make up our cattle herd today. The herd is made up of several bloodlines, but AI has been used when a stud herd bull wasn't available, as a result the cattle are we believe a terrific example of Gelbvieh cattle in both the Gold/Red & Black colour. Gelbvieh originated in the Bavaria region of Germany and were bred for the beef consumption as well as to milk & pull heavy farm equipment.
Apart from Gelbvieh we are also have Angus cows which have been used to breed what are called 'Balancers.' We have crossed Stud Angus cows to leading Gelbvieh herdsires to produce Balancer calves. This cross is outstanding, with the resulting calves really benefiting from the heterosis & best traits of both breeds. Please see our Gallery page above for photos & the balancer link for more information.
